(San Diego, CA) – On November 19th, Freedom Alliance Operations Director for Western Region Programs Jennifer Ohman received the Molly Pitcher award for her tireless efforts to honor Marine Corps Field Artillery. This award is given to women who have voluntarily contributed in a significant way to the improvement of the Air Defense Artillery Community. The award ceremony was part of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) birthday celebration ball for the 11th Marines HQ Battery. The event was held at the Pala Hotel and Casino just north of San Diego and had over 500 attendees.

Jen Ohman“I would like to express my appreciation to the 11th Marines for honoring me with the Molly Pitcher award,” responded Jennifer Ohman. “Being able to participate in the Regiment’s birthday ball and celebrate the 234th birthday of the Marine Corps was a special event for me. As the wife of a service member, I appreciate the sacrifices that our military families make every day and the recognition by those who defend our freedoms is humbling. I am truly honored to have been included in the 11th Marines family.”

Jennifer has been involved in numerous troop appreciation events around the country. Among a long list of activities, she recently helped organize welcome home events for Sailors returning from deployments on the USS Thach, USS Kidd, and the USS Preble. In October she distributed gift certificates to the Target Acquisition Platoon of the 11th Marine Regiment after their return from a seven-month deployment. Also, Jennifer is active in supporting Navy Individual Augmentee’s and has arranged a number of Family Fun Days and other events for service members located at locations like Camp Pendleton, the Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar, and the Marine Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms.

Freedom Alliance President Tom Kilgannon commented, “We are proud to have Jennifer be a part of our team and pleased that she has been honored with this impressive award. She is a hardworking and dedicated person who well represents the mission of our organization. We extend our congratulations to Jennifer for being recognized for her accomplishments.”

The Molly Pitcher award is named after a woman who carried pitcher after pitcher of water across the battlefield to exhausted and thirsty soldiers at the Battle of Monmouth during the American Revolutionary War. She is also credited with taking up the post of her wounded husband at the artillery gun he was assigned to fire.

Freedom Alliance also helped sponsor the Marine Corps Ball by offsetting ticket prices for many of the junior enlisted Marines.
