Dulles, VA - Valentine’s Day might not yet be on the minds of many besides chocolate stores and flower shops but for Freedom Alliance and Chick-fil-A it has taken center stage. On January 15th, these organizations kicked off a “Gifts from Home” care package drive for deployed service members.
The goal of the drive is to send as many boxes as possible on February 6th so troops will receive a Valentine’s Day surprise from those at home who appreciate their sacrifice and service. Chick-fil-A has incentivized the deal by offering a free chicken sandwich for each filled care package!
Bill Digges, operator of the Dulles Town Crossing Chick-fil-A was a driving force behind this event. “My father served in the Army and father-in-law in the Marines,” Mr. Digges explained. “We feel privileged to be a part of letting our service men and women know someone back home is thinking about them. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our community like this.”
“It’s comforting to know that there are committed businesses like Chick-fil-A in the area that are willing to make such heartwarming gestures to members of the United States military,” Freedom Alliance President Tom Kilgannon said. “I know that our service members feel a boost in morale when Americans show their gratitude. We are just happy to help in any way we can.”
The drive will continue through February 6th at the Chick-fil-A restaurants in Dulles Town Crossing, Chantilly, Reston, and Sterling. Most requested items include toiletries, pre-paid international calling cards, non-perishable snacks, magazines, books, movies, personal notes and letters, protein/energy bars, and baby wipes. |
