Destin, FL – On February 16, more than 100 Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen from Eglin Air Force Base were treated to a day of friendly, competitive golf during the Fourth Annual Freedom Classic Golf Tournament. Freedom Alliance was proud to sponsor this event to honor the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces, who bravely defend our freedom each day.
“Everyday we are thankful for the duty and sacrifice these brave men and women give in helping to protect our freedom,” said Davage “Buddy” Runnels, organizer of the event. “This tournament is one small way of showing our deepest appreciation for those who have served and who are currently serving our nation.”
The tournament was played on the 18-hole, Fred Couples-designed Championship course at Kelly Plantation in Destin, Florida. Prior to tee-off, the service members were treated to an “All American” lunch with entertainment by composer, pianist, and former Army enlisted man David Seering, whose past audiences have included Presidents Bush, Reagan and Carter.
Among those present at the event were the former Commander-in-Chief of U.S. Air Forces in Europe General William L. Kirk (Ret.) and Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force James C. Binnicker (Ret.). Colonel Bruce McClintock, Wing Commander at Eglin AFB, and Lieutenant Colonel Gary Bloomberg of the Army 7th Special Forces Group were present on behalf of Eglin AFB.
Founded in 2006, the Freedom Classic is held in memory of Colonel W.W. Hurt (Ret.). |
