Charlotte, NC ? Modeled after the popular HBO series "Band Of Brothers," which chronicles a very famous company of paratroopers the men of Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment ? Todd Petersen of Charlotte is marching 136 miles, the Patriot Walk, to raise money for the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund.

The story goes like this. In 1942, commanding officer, Col. Robert F. Sink, had a challenge for his men, based on a story he read in the Reader's Digest ? an account of a world record endurance march by the Japanese Army. This record march was 100 miles long and the Japanese completed it in 72 hours. Knowing his men could do better, he ordered the 1st Battalion to Ft. Benning by rail, the 2nd Battalion marched to Atlanta, a distance of 11 5 miles, which they covered in 3 days, and the 3rd Battalion rode to Atlanta by rail then marched to Ft Benning, a distance of 136 miles. The Japanese record had been broken. Petersen will walk the same distance and be sponsored by friends and families per mile.

?It?s great Americans like Todd Petersen who make the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund possible. The money raised through this effort will have a profound and lasting impact on the sons and daughters of America?s military heroes,? said Tom Kilgannon, President of Freedom Alliance. ?This event not only benefits the families of those military personnel who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, but it is a way for Americans to say thank you to all our troops who are fighting to keep America safe and strong.?
