The Freedom Alliance Support Our Troops program is a year-round outreach to honor and support members of our Armed Forces – those who have been wounded and are recuperating at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Bethesda Naval Medical Center and other military hospitals throughout the United States – as well as those currently serving on the front lines. We also provide support and comfort to grieving military families, whose loss is immeasurable.
“Many of our war wounded are recovering in hospitals far from home and family,” says Freedom Alliance President Tom Kilgannon. “We hope to make their stay in the hospital more comfortable and show them that America is grateful for their service. There is no better expression of the Christmas spirit than to help those who defend our freedom throughout the year.”
Monetary donations allow Freedom Alliance to purchase and deliver resources to wounded troops at Christmas and throughout the year. Needs include:
-
Clothing (some arrive with only the clothes on their backs)
-
Special troop dinners
-
Entertainment and excursions
-
Toiletries and other comforts of home
In addition, funds may be used to help with travel and lodging expenses of family members so they may visit and spend more time with their loved ones. Freedom Alliance has provided over $100,000 in monetary and tangible support to our wounded troops recuperating in military hospitals.
In the past year, through the generosity of grateful Americans, Freedom Alliance has been able to do the following for our troops and their families:
-
Award monetary grants to wounded troops
-
Assist with housing and travel expenses
-
Organize military appreciation dinners
-
Outfit a Bereavement Center at Fort Hood, TX
-
Provide Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners
-
Donate Christmas presents for families
-
Provide entertainment for the troops
(including both 2006 Freedom Concerts in NJ and CA)
We are currently collecting cash donations and department store gift certificates. These gifts help to ease the transition of our returning heroes.
The needs of wounded service members vary by season and the extent of their injuries. Some spend months in the hospital, in which case monetary donations help pay for family travel or increased expenses away from home.
Cash donations and department store gift certificates allow us to meet their needs as they change over time. Gift certificates to national chain stores such as Old Navy, Target, Wal-Mart, Sears, etc., are especially helpful. Thank you in advance for your support of our men and women in uniform.

This Christmas, Freedom Alliance provided dinners at all the Naval base galleys throughout the San Diego metro-area, as well as gift cards to families at the local Marine Corps bases.
